Shaking off the crabs for good

This happens to all of us throughout life. People think that they have more control over us than they actually do, and when they realize that they don’t, they lash out and try to derail us from whatever we are doing.

There’s an old analogy about a bucket of crabs. Each crab can easily climb out of the bucket, but each time a crab attempts to make the escape, the other crabs in the bucket reach up and grab the crab and pull it down into the bucket.

Toxic people are the same way, especially if they have been close to us at some point in our lives.

They see us making positive changes in our lives and just as we are about to get to the next level, here comes the claw to pull us back down and leave another scar.

Then the crab feels bad and apologizes. “I’m sorry for pulling you back down and leaving yet another claw mark on you.”

Having a heart and loving them, because we do, we say, “It’s ok. Just don’t do it again.”

Some time goes on. We start climbing up the side of the bucket and are climbing out and here comes the claw AGAIN to pull us back down and leave yet another scar.

The process repeats itself over and over. This is an abusive relationship. End it. The crab is either unintentionally or intentionally manipulating us and may or may not even realize what it’s doing.

It is up to us to realize what is going on and break free from the toxicity of the other crab. It hurts because we do love the other crab, but they are holding us back and keeping us from climbing out of the bucket.

There is never an excuse for someone to manipulate, exert unwanted control or influence, or ever pull us back in life. We must shake them off and keep moving if we are to attain freedom and happiness. Unfortunately, there is no other way.

Some of us never get out of the bucket. This hinders us from living the life that we were meant to live.

How many crabs are in your bucket? Who are they? Want to find out? Try and climb out of the bucket, then shake their asses off.

Keep your eye open for other crabs that will try to enter your bucket and deny entry.
