The freefall after taking ‘The Leap’

The past year has been exhilarating for me, to say the least. We were about 50 episodes into the Kerrville Podcast last year when I noticed that every guest that we had on, had taken “The Leap” in one way or another.
They had all went all in in one way or another. Some had invested every bit of their retirement into a new business. Others had moved across the country to start over where they didn’t know anyone, but had fallen in love with the Texas Hill Country while visiting and decided to make it their home.
I was one of those people. When I was 19 years old, I took an 11:30 PM bus ride from St. Louis to Kerrville and landed in Kerrville at about 11 PM on January 4th, 2003. I took another leap in 2011 and moved my family down to Comfort from St. Louis to take a job in radio. Both times were scary, but both times I landed on my feet.
There is a certain amount of faith that one has and exhibits when they take “The Leap.” The people who risk everything for a better life or a better quality of life exhibit more faith than anyone else in my opinion. Taking “The Leap” is really taking a leap of faith.
You can choose to play it safe in life, but where does that get you? We all know what we need to do in life. For some, it’s starting a business. For others, it’s making a move that’ll bring you the peace and happiness that you’ve always wanted.
I believe that none of us give ourselves enough credit. I also believe that we all let fear keep us from living up to our full potential.
In 2015, I took Thinking Into Results training with the legendary Bob Proctor. That’s when my outlook on life completely changed. I knew that I had a fire inside of me to make big things in life happen, but Thinking Into Results helped me tie it all together. Bob taught his program based on two books, which were Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill and Psycho Cybernetics by Maxwell Maltz.
There are two factors that are guides to taking the leap. It must be something that scares you. It must be something that you are passionate for. If you want life to get great for you in unimaginable ways, you also must have the faith to make it through.
What happens to most of us is that we find that fire. We know what our passion is. We know what scares us and we make a decision to go for it. Then, right when we are about to make the leap or start to make it we hit something called the Terror Barrier.
The terror barrier scares us so bad that our inner-most programming causes us to retract when the leap gets to scary and we end up right where we started, not even coming close to living up to our full potential.
In 2021, I took the biggest leap imaginable when I came out about who I am and started transitioning. I jumped headfirst into a cloud and it was extremely terrifying for me at first. Yet, I made it anyway. I had to align my foundation with who I am and risked my long, successful radio career to make it.
I jumped. I went into freefall. Those around me really kept me going on my darkest days and they were scary. I found out who my friends were and who they weren’t, quickly, which was beautiful in itself.
I landed on my feet. My faith paid off. I am now in alignment with who I am and the foundation is fixed. I am now much happier than I have ever been.
We all have things that we are passionate about that are too scary to go for. We wouldn’t be passionate about them if they didn’t mean something to us.
Fear is just that. Fear. Never let it stop you from living your best life.
